GDST Young Leaders’ Conference
Friday 29th Sep – Sun 1st Oct 2017
Our Young Leaders’ Conference brings our new Year 13 student leaders (head girls, deputies and senior prefects) together from all 25 sixth forms at GDST schools and academies. The conference is realistic, challenging and relevant, enabling students to make an impact in their leadership roles, manage their workloads and inspire them as they embark on their own career journey upon leaving school.
Opening on the Friday with speakers from varied backgrounds talking about leadership, teamwork and resilience from their own experience, we will give students a rounded perspective of leadership and the fundamentals of leading and working in a team. They will also be put through their paces with a series of Leadership and Team Building Challenges from the British Army’s Education Team.
For the rest of the weekend, students work as part of a team in a competitive Apprentice-style challenge for four real charities. On Sunday the teams present their proposal to a judging panel, with awards announced at the end. In previous years some of the ideas presented have been implemented by the charities attending, including one recently recently went viral, involving celebrities from across the world. The campaign has since won several industry awards.
